The traditional cottages of rural Wales are often idyllic homes, untouched by time, and serve as a perfect way to reconnect with nature. Unfortunately, many old cottages lack habitable space and feel cramped. This was the case with this cottage, for which we designed a contemporary extension to the existing building that respects the traditional construction, by blending the new and old. While the internal habitable space has greatly increased, the original cottage remains a celebrated focal point of the building.
